Early Halloween Celebrations at Legoland

If you have read my blog before you know I am always looking at ways to save money.

We are heading to LEGOLAND on vacation shortly and are going to buy a 3 month ticket from Costco in Carlsbad for $51.99 (adult) and $42.99 (child). Our tickets must be converted to a 3 month pass on our first entry to the park, but we will be paying less than the cost of a single day ticket if we purchased at the park.

As we are staying in the area for a week, we can decide how long we want to stay each day. Normally this can be limited a lot by the short operating hours at LEGOLAND which are 10am to 5pm Thursday thru Monday.

For the month of October LEGOLAND is staying open until 9pm on Saturday nights!

If you are already in the park then you can stay until 9pm. If you just want to attend the Brick-or-Treat Party nights, you can purchase a special ticket for $35 for admission after 5pm.

LEGOLAND members can invite friends and family for $25 on Saturdays in October.

For more information visit http://www.legoland.com/california.htm

I emailed LEGOLAND about the special event ticket prices and being a member to receive the information about family and friends savings. Contact LEGOLAND CA

Save on Dental, Chiropractic, Vision, Prescription or Medical costs

Do you have an insurance plan with high deductibles?

Does you plan cover dental, chiropractic or vision?

No insurance?

How would you like a discount plan (not insurance) where you know before you go to the doctors how much you will pay? How about getting a discount on your teeth cleaning more than twice a year? 25% to 80% savings on dental procedures performed by a Program dentist.
Special savings on specialist work such as braces, oral surgery, root canals, gum treatment and children's dental work.

You don't have to agree on a price with the doctor, that is already done for you by the Plan administrators. You just pay for the services on the day they are rendered.

With Dental, Chiropractic and Vision at only $19.95 per month for an entire household it's worth taking a look.

For our family the savings are greater than what our insurance coverage offers.

10 Easy Ways to Save Over a Grand on Gas

Here is an extract of an article By Sean Tucker I found online on how to save on GAS. I hope this helps!

According to the mileage book in my glovebox, I averaged about 21 miles per gallon in May. So far in June, I'm at 26.

New, more fuel-efficient, car?

Nope, I'm commuting in the same old Volvo S60 that has seen better days. Same dent in the right rear door. Same old Cheerios wedged under the child safety seat in back. (Yeah, I know. I'll get to it, Honey).

So how did I do it? I'm trying to learn to drive more efficiently, and little by little, it's working. With a few simple changes, you can easily squeeze more gas mileage out of the car you're already driving.

A note on the calculations:
Your mileage will vary. Governments and automakers estimate fuel mileage savings by percentage -- do x and you'll get five percent better fuel mileage. I wanted to know what they meant in real dollars, so I used the average mileage Americans actually got from their cars in 2007 (22.4 mpg, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics) and boosted it by the percentage each tip should gain. I've assumed you spend 55 percent of the time driving in the city and 45 percent driving on the highway. I borrowed those assumptions from the formula EPA uses to calculate the mileage of new cars.

Using the average price of a gallon of gas as of June 12 ($4.05, according to AAA) and assuming you drive 15,000 miles a year (according to EPA estimates), I calculated what each tip would save in a year. The numbers aren't a perfect prediction -- I have no idea what you drive, or what's in your trunk -- but they do provide an interesting perspective. Here are ten easy ways to put the math to the test and put some more cash in your wallet.

1. Get that "Check Engine" Light Checked Out:
Possible Savings: Off the charts

2. Check Your Tire Pressure:
Possible Savings 133.9 gallons/year ($542/yr)

3. Change Your Air Filter:
Possible Savings 60.9 gallons/yr ($247/yr)

4. Drive 60 on the Highway, Not 75:
Possible Savings: 57.8 gallons/year ($234/yr)

5. Turn Off the A/C:
Possible Savings 31.9 gallons/yr ($129/yr)

6. Get Your Engine Tuned:
Possible Savings 25.8 gallons/year ($104/yr)

7. Drive Calmly in the City:
Possible Savings: 17.9 gallons/yr ($73/yr)

8. Lose Weight:
Possible Savings 13.1 gallons/yr for each 100 pounds you remove ($104/yr)

9. Lose the Roof Rack
Possible Savings 13.1 gallons/year ($53/yr)

10. Change Your Oil on Time
Possible Savings 6.6 gallons/year ($27/yr)

How Much Can You Save?

If you follow the tips above, that's $1,514 less you could spend on gas in the next year. Though it's a rough estimate, it shows you what small changes in your habits -- most of which you can make for free -- could do for your wallet.

How to save on electricity during the summer - SCE

If you have Southern California Edison you have the option to sign up for the SCE Summer Discount Plan.

The basis of the plan is that a control box is installed on your air conditioning unit or units. This allows SCE to temporarily turn off your unit during periods of peak usage. This box remains on your unit until your move or sell or that you no longer wish to participate in the program.

There are 6 options available to choose from that will give you savings of between
  • Up to $25 and
  • Up to $200

for service between June 1 and October 1.

How long is the air off?

  • on the Up to $25 off plan - A/C off 15 out of every 30 mins (up to 15 interruptions during the summer)
  • on the Up to $200 off plan - A/C off continuously for the emergency period (unlimited interruptions)

For a history of outages in the past 2 years and to sign up go to www.sec.com/sdp

Over the last 2 years there were only 8 localized outages and we have been fortunate not to participate in any outages in the past 5 years.

This is a great plan but not for those who like or need their air conditioning every day.

How to save on entry to Legoland

If you have young kids the thought of taking them to an amusement park for a whole day can be quite daunting. With the price of tickets though you often feel you have no choice but to cram as much into one day as possible.

There are a few ways to save money on entry to Legoland.
1. Get a coupon from your local grocer during a promotional period and save on a single day entry; OR purchase a single day ticket from Costco online.

2. If you live locally and think you will go often enough then you could purchase an annual pass.
There are quite a few options available and you can research then on the legoland website.

3. Buy a 3 month ticket from Costco, either online or at selected stores. This ticket must be converted to a 3 month pass after first entry to the park, but at $51.99 (as of May 2008) it is cheaper than a one day ticket purchased directly from Legoland.

4. If you are in the San Diego area and want to visit multiple attractions in 7 days or less, then look into the Go San Diego pass. It includes entry to Legoland and a lot of other attractions.
